THE MISTREATERS "Playa Hated to the Fullest" LP/CD ES1296

Where their first album “Grab Them Cakes” was the dirty rock and roll trick that you wish you lost your virginity to, the Mistreaters sophomore full-length “Playa Hated to tha Fullest” is the more diverse and complete soccer-mom follow-up that you want to marry and spend the rest of your life with. While everyone expects the long tradition of garage punk dirge like the Oblivians, Pussy Galore and the Gories, what people don’t expect is how deep this Milwaukee quartet is influenced by decidedly non-“it” bands. The likes of Otis Redding, AC/DC and Johnny Cash are summoned on “Hated”, the “diversity” is most evident on the slow blues of “She’s My Witch” which enlists the sultry vocal help of Deanne Iovan from the Come-Ons and sax warbling from Jim Diamond, the album’s producer. Not that they’re trying to scare you away from what was so chocolaty and gooey about the first record. Tracks like “The Other Man” and “Check Out Preston” are textbook rock and roll perfection, sprinkled with the Drano-soaked vocal squirts of Christreater. David John Henry Mistreater’s bass sound is full and upfront, like a midget at a punk show. The guitar of Dusty Mistreater grates more than a worker at a pizza place while still having that harmonic side you always admired in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. And Christian Mistreater, hell, he uses a hubcap for a cymbal, so you know it’s gonna be raw. Put it together and I don’t need to tell you that it shatters windows, sets off car alarms, and is responsible for civil disobedience all over the globe. Let it be known that “Playa Hated…” brings the love. No need to playa hate on the Mistreaters…they done wrote the book. THE MISTREATERS “Playa Hated To The Fullest” LP/CD...ES1296.
